  • Hummingbird bobtail squid, Euprymna berryi (2 cm), Kenting Nationalpark, Taiwan.<br />
The hummingbird bobtail squid move in a spectacular and drone-like manner using either their Dumbo-like fins attached to the head or a jet engine in reversed gear. This magician can also glow with a specialised light organ that is inhabited by a bioluminescent bacteria. The "blue glow" counter-illumination hides the squid’s silhouette by helping it blend in with its surroundings.<br />

  • Diamond squid, Thysanoteuthis rhombus, juvenile (2 cm), Longdong, Taiwan. This is the first every sighted juvenile diamond squid in Taiwan. A rare shot. When adult it is a huge squid and grow up to one meter in mantle length and weigh up to 30 kg. This unusual cephalopod lives in pair-like relationships so if one is caught by squid fisherman, the other diamond squid will likely remain in the area until it is also caught.<br />
