• Raindrops on the leaves of Sacred Lotus, Nelumbo nucifera, a very well-known plant in all of Asia, and seen as sacred to the followers of several religions, most of all to Taoists, Buddhists and Hindus. It is an aquatic plant with perennial roots that survive over many years (possibly up to a thousand years!). Its seeds also have a remarkable survival capacity, and the oldest seeds that have been proven to be brought to germination were 1300 years old, from North-East China. Xinqing National Wetland Park, near Yichun city, Heilongjiang Province, China.

 • An old growth forest with lichen-clad trees, something that is unfortunately more and more uncommon and precious in the world of today. Lichens take many decades to grow this big and they are also very vulnerable to air pollution. That is why we see less and less of these habitats today and we really need to cherish and enjoy and protect those that are still standing. A good Boreal forest ecosystem first starts to be really valuable for biodiversity once the trees have reached an age of about 130 years.
• Raindrops from the night’s rain make the thin strings of this spider web more visible. Spiders are not insects which many often think, but an order or their own, Araneae. When you see a spider, you can see that they have 8 legs and not 6, like the insects have.
• This plant is a Chinese Angelica, Angelica dahurica, in Chinese Bai Zhi. The knowledge about the medical properties of this plant's roots, so-called Dahurican root, has been dated back to Ancient China, already as early as 400 BC. It is from a family called Apiaceae or Umbelliferae that includes many thousands of species, many of which are used by humans as vegetables or herbs and spices, like carrot, parsley, dill, coriander, celery, carroway, cumin, parsnip, chervil, angelica, anise or fennel. Other species in the same family are instead very poisonous.
