Diamond squid, Thysanoteuthis rhombus, juvenile (2 cm), Longdong, Taiwan. This is the first every sighted juvenile diamond squid in Taiwan. A rare shot. When adult it is a huge squid and grow up to one meter in mantle length and weigh up to 30 kg. This unusual cephalopod lives in pair-like relationships so if one is caught by squid fisherman, the other diamond squid will likely remain in the area until it is also caught.
Longdong (Dragon Cave) is the largest bay on the Northeast Coast and the bay host an abundant marine life.
