The Skywalker hoolock gibbon or Gaoligong hoolock gibbon, Hoolock tianxing, Gaoligong Mountains National Nature Reserve, Yunnan Province, China

It was first described in January 2017 in the American Journal of Primatology. The Skywalker hoolock gibbon is named after Luke Skywalker from the Star Wars, as the scientists who described it are fans.

The Skywalker hoolock gibbon is found in the tropical forests of eastern Myanmar and the Yunnan Province in southwestern China.It is listed as Endangered by IUCN as there is only about 200 individuals in China and an unknown number in Myanmar.
